The starting point

Teaching & Learning

We remain steadfast in our belief that every student can learn at high levels, even during a remote setting. During Remote Learning, all Treamis courses will continue to be administered in the same rigorous curriculum and hold the same high expectations for our students. The school offers core subjects Languages, Science, Math, Commerce and Humanities directly.

Lab Classes: Lab classes (e.g., science, music, art, theatre) will involve different activities during the synchronous learning period. In some cases, teachers will conduct demonstrations or labs for students to view. Teachers will also use a variety of simulations, video footage, and interactive software to enhance the learning experience.

Physical Education & Dance: Students will need to have a space at home (approximately 6 ft. x 6 ft. or larger) to move freely. Class instruction will be provided during synchronous Zoom and pre-recorded video. Students will need to wear appropriate attire for physical activity.

Supply and Equipment Pick-up: In some cases there may be materials and equipment that need to be picked up or delivered from school. In those cases, we will communicate the plan with parents and students.


Students will experience real-time lessons for each class period, every day. Each class period will begin and end in a synchronous fashion with some activities/assignments of the day being asynchronous—where students work independently.

Each day students should log into their Zoom/Google Meet meeting before the start time for the class. Daily attendance will be taken from the students who are present in each class meeting. Students are expected to participate, share, discuss, explore and learn together during each day of class. For more details about the daily lesson experiences for particular classes, contact the classroom teacher.


The events that gather evidence of student learning and mastery will consist of real-time observation and evaluation of student performance, student participation in discussions, teacher observation of class or group discussions and one-on-one conversations with students. In upper Grades, the teacher posts assignments or assessment events and students complete by designated time-line. There will be online assessments and peer or self-evaluations. Students are also assessed based on artifacts submitted by the students.

Progress and Grade Reporting

Progress status, as well as grade ranges, are available through the school parent/student portal. Student progress will be posted by teachers each week. Please call or email the teacher with any questions about student progress or grades.


Academic support is provided to students through a series of targeted interventions. The chart below outlines different ways in which students may receive academic support during Remote Learning.

Identifying Student Needs

Teachers know best their students’ learning profiles, accomplishments and struggles. A student’s teacher should always be the first point of contact. Just as with in-person instruction, during Remote Learning , each week teachers will report student progress in the student/parent portal. Course syllabi, support videos and practice materials for each course can be found here.

Teacher and Student Conversations

Questions about a student’s progress and/or grade should first be directed to the student’s teacher. When communicating with the teacher, consider discussing the following to best understand what your student knows or in what areas your student may need support:

  • The learning targets your student is demonstrating growth in;
  • The learning targets your student is demonstrating a lack of growth in;
  • The re-teaching, practice or re-performance opportunities your student could engage in to show evidence of learning and growth;
  • Where and how these opportunities for support can be provided for your student.
