IGCSE
Grades 9 and 10

IGCSE, which stands for ‘International General Certificate of Secondary Education’ is operated by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.  It is designed to meet the needs of students studying in English medium International Schools. More than 2,000 schools in over 100 countries teach Cambridge IGCSE.

IGCSE, designed as a two year curriculum programme provides a foundation for high level courses such as the North American Advanced Placement Test (APT), International Baccalaureate (IB); GCE or International 'A' levels and the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE).  The AICE  (administered by University of Cambridge, England) or Level 'A' examinations and the IGCSE together constitute a fully integrated curriculum for students in their last four years of Secondary Education.
  • IGCSE offers a wider range of subjects and encourages practical approach to teaching and learning.
  • The assessment has an eight-point grading scale, from A+ to G, with A+ being the highest.  These grades are determined by a combination of work done in school during the course, called coursework, and a series of final examinations.
  • Most subjects offer a choice between core curriculum and extended curriculum.  The core curriculum is an overview of the subject and is suitable for students who are expected to achieve grades C to G. The extended curriculum is, sort of, a specialisation in that subject. It is challenging and designed for students who are expected to achieve grades A+ to C.
  • IGCSE is tailored for a more multi-cultural and more multi-lingual audience.
Subjects in the IGCSE curriculum:

There are five Subject Groups in IGCSE with several subjects to choose from, in each group:

  • Group 1: Languages (First Language - English, Foreign Language - French)
  • Group 2: Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics, Geography, English Literature, History)
  • Group 3: Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Group 4: Mathematics (Mathematics - Core, Additional Mathematics - Extended)
  • Group 5: Creative, Technical & Vocational (Accounting, Business Studies, Computer Studies, Music*, ESL support*, Physical Education*)

NoteSome courses may not be offered due to insufficient student enrollment.  Non-IGCSE examined courses are noted with an *.

Reasons to select IGCSE:

  1. It is one of the most sought-after and recognised qualifications in the world. It develops and encourages vital educational skills, including oral, investigative, problem solving, team work, recall of knowledge, and initiative skills.
  2. The programme has worldwide status and credibility. It is delivered in schools in over 140 countries and is recognised by colleges and universities everywhere.
  3. The curriculum is balanced, flexible and lends an international perspective to studies.
  4. Students with different ability levels have the freedom to choose subjects that are right for them and, thereby, the opportunity to score good grades.
  5. Students can take advantage of the Cambridge Checkpoint, a diagnostic service comprising of standardised tests, that pin-points strengths and weaknesses in key curriculum areas.
CBSE
Grades 9 - 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education is an eminent board of school education in India. In addition to prescribing and updating the syllabi and norms of examinations, the CBSE, under its 10+2 system of education, conducts two major examinations  every year at the end class 10 (All India Secondary School Examination - AISSE) and 12 (All India Senior School Certificate Examination - AISSCE) which is a school-leaving examination recognized internationally for direct admission to university undergraduate programs.

  3. Syllabus and methodology of CBSE makes it much convenient for students to opt for pure sciences, medicine, engineering and IIT,
  4. Because of its national curriculum, CBSE offers uninterrupted education to the children of parents in transferable jobs.
  5. CBSE system goes through continuous curriculum changes integrating subjects such as adoloscence education, peace  etc., exposing the students to current issues facing the world.

International A Level
Grades 11 and 12

International A Level syllabus has been created specifically for an international audience. The content is carefully devised to avoid any cultural bias. International A Level examination sessions occur twice a year in June and November with results issued in August and January respectively. It uses a wide range of assessment processes and techniques to supplement formal written examinations - orals, practicals, projects and coursework of differing types are all used in various subjects where they are the most effective and appropriate means of measuring attainment.

Each subject that a Cambridge international student takes at A Level receives a separately certificated grade. International A Level is reported on a grade scale from A* grade, awarded for the highest level of achievement, to E, indicating the minimum required performance.

Good International A Level grades can be a key to admission for all the world's major anglophone universities. University course credit and advanced standing is often available in countries such as the USA and Canada. Good grades in carefully chosen International A Level subjects can result in up to one full year of credit.
