Pongal


January 14:   ‘Pongal’ meaning ‘boiling over’ or ‘spill over’ in Tamil language is a harvest festival celebrated in India and Sri Lanka.  Treamis students celebrated this festival in the school campus.  Students cooked Pongal (boiling rice with fresh milk and jiggery and topping it with brown sugar, ghee, cashew and raisins).  Primary school students performed harvest dance.  Students also danced to the song ‘Barso re” depecting the celebration of pongal season.  The festival included fashion show,, a rangoli competition and a painting competition with the theme ‘pongal’.
